There are many roads to lasting transportation solutions
Gaps in the region’s transportation are complex. Lowering barriers to access and increasing the variety and flexibility of services offered lets the network meet people where they are- and where they need to be.

Fare-Free buses and Micro-Transit
Removing financial barriers and increasing transit flexibility.

Climate Friendly Transportation
Encouraging greener travel with improved infrastructure.

Equitable Funding
Changing the way the state funds transportation to better reflect where most MA residents live.

West-East Rail
Facilitating travel across the state to increase access to employment, recreation, and civic engagement.
Highlights from the 2025 WMTAN Forum
On April 11th, 2025, advocates gathered in Springfield to discuss innovative transportation-related work being done in the four counties of Western Massachusetts.
Identifying Gaps in the Network
With three separate Regional Transit Authorities and seven micro-transit zones, it is hard to get a comprehensive look at where services in the region exist – and where they are lacking. In collaboration with the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, the Ride WMA GIS map was created to visualize those gaps.
